Don’t Panic, It’s Only The General Election

General Election 4th July 2024

Tania and Helen have been through 5 General Elections, and Brexit in their estate agency careers and every time the housing market is affected the same way.  The market almost comes to a standstill as buyers wait to see who will take over the running of our country and which reforms they will bring into power with them. Viewings slow down as people wait.

This year is no exception.  With so many promises on what the newly elected government will do, especially to the housing market, buyers are sitting on the fence and waiting to see what happens.  Stock & shares and mortgage rates are fluctuating, so until the election takes place, everyone waits with bated breath to see who will take over the running of the country, what policies they will put in place, and then, almost like a light switch, buyers’ confidence is renewed, and the market opens up again. This happens every time.

So why not take this downtime to check your house is in order?  Perhaps your sale price needs adjusting (especially if you have not had any viewings in the last 4 weeks).  Take the time to fix those niggly little things you’ve been putting off, freshen up the paintwork, tidy up the garden etc.  Use this opportunity to make sure your property is ready for the buyers once normal order of business resumes post-4th of July.
