Discover Llandysul - Cardigan Bay Properties

Llandysul is a small market town approximately 12 miles inland from the coast and set in the valley of the River Teifi. It takes its name from Saint Tysul who was the grandson of Ceredig ap Cunedda (King of Ceredigion in the 5th Century) and a cousin of Saint David. The medieval 13th Century Church of Saint Tusul, which was built on the site of an earlier church dating back to the 6th Century, is the oldest building in the town. As with many of the settlements in Ceredigion its roots lie further back in the Bronze and Iron age with the first Celtic settlers and nearby Pen Coed-Foel is an example of an Iron Age hillfort.

The River Teifi runs through the town and offers an escape for fishermen and water sport enthusiasts alike. For the thrill-seekers, there is a canoeing centre (The Llandysul Paddlers) right in the centre of town which offers many activities such as; canoeing, river swimming, canyoning, climbing etc. If you are looking for a more relaxing pastime then the river provides good numbers of salmon and trout for fishing and there is a flourishing local walking club that meets regularly to enjoy the local paths and trails. The town also has a very active and successful Cricket Club.

The Teifi Valley, around Llandysul, was home to the once-thriving woollen industry of Ceredigion and nearby there is the National Wool Museum where you can explore the rich history of the industry in the area. Llandysul is also home to Gwasg Gomer (Gomer Press) the largest publishing house in Wales and is run by the descendent of the founder John David Lewis, who started the press in 1892. The town is also the home of Telynau Teifi, The Harp Centre of Wales.

Llandysul has a host of local amenities for the community including; a post office, two chemists, a Spar, two Drs surgeries, a vets, a range of take-aways, pubs, hotels and B&B’s and a range of other shops. The new school of Bro Teifi is a brand new super school development, on the outskirts of the town, and provides education from nursery through to year 13. The area is strongly Welsh speaking and the school reflects this and its curriculum is taught in the Welsh medium. It has a strong academic record and is therefore very popular with the surrounding community. The town has a leisure centre and swimming pool which boasts four badminton courts, a fitness suite and offers a range of classes.
