Fishguard Folk Festival
What is it?
The Fishguard Folk Festival is an annual event, bringing together bands and musicians, as well as other activities and entertainments. This year the line up includes headline acts such as the Mari Mathias Band, Gitân, Owen Shiers, Flook, and Angeline Morrison, while free to see acts include Burn the Fiddle, Taith, Dark & Twisties and Paul Hayes. It’s a fantastic long weekend of great music and an incredible atmosphere for all ages, with workshops and talks also taking place.
When is it on?
This year’s festival takes place from 22 – 25 May, with the Bank Holiday weekend giving plenty of time to discover the music, events and the location.
How much does it cost?
Best of all this fabulous festival is mostly free of charge, although some performances and workshops do make a charge or ask for a donation. You can check out all of the Free to See acts here.
Do you need to book?
For some workshops – such as songwriting or Welsh singing – you will need to pre-book to ensure you get a place, others – such as shanty singing and willow weaving – you can just drop in. There are also various talks taking place, including one on local folk traditions.
Where does it take place?
It takes place in the pretty town of Fishguard on the West Wales coast. Performances take place in various locations throughout the town, including in the town square and Fishguard Yacht Club in the old town.
